MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND CRUISE

BY CRUISE CAPTAIN MARY JO

"I Want to Sail the Chester River….." was our song on Memorial Day Weekend…..and SAIL WE DID !

The highlight for some RHSC Intrepid Sailors was the Point-To-Point Race (self-timed, honor system, no-pressure Racing 101) from GC3 at Rock Hall to the RN2 inside the Corsica River channel. The wind favored RHSC boats, and nobody even thought about starting an engine (except those who sailed aground in the Corsica).

Upon anchoring, Race Captain Dave pulled out his Mac to tally the time sheets.

Anam Kara won the contest handily, and the skipper
and crew bagged the champagne.

Though the main raft-up was in the Corsica around the bend from RN4 (a bight otherwise known by Vision Quest II and Circe as "Collision Creek"), boaters spread out in other Chester River locations, and all enjoyed a deep pink sunset.

Circe Captain (that's me), vowing never to raft in the Corsica again 'cause it's a bad luck place…..left the cruise Sunday morning due to a crazy engine accident involving the engine wire harness and the prop shaft. Hint: the engine wiring lost that fight.

Sailing away from the raft-up and out into the Chester River, we found some mighty winds - out of the south and up to 20-25 knots apparent wind speed, some say. Bodkin Creek was the second night destination for many of the cruising party. Others stayed to enjoy the tributaries of the Chester.

Your Cruise Captain returned to Rock Hall (much faster than Saturday's racing time over the same course), and met the Sailing Emporium push boat off Waterman's Dock for an engineless nudge back into the slip - tired and sore from four hours of serious, rail-in-the-water grinding.
